Gutters for Beacon’s older homes and fresh renovations
Beacon sits on the east bank of the Hudson at the foot of Mount Beacon, named for the signal fires lit on its summit during the Revolution. The city formed in 1913 when the villages of Matteawan and Fishkill Landing joined, and Main Street still runs between those two old centers, with Fishkill Creek cutting through town on its way to the river. Victorian and brick homes line the blocks on and off Main Street, older frame houses climb toward the mountain, and the Metro-North station and the Newburgh Beacon Bridge tie the city to Newburgh across the river and Fishkill next door. A lot of those older houses are being renovated right now.
The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Hudson Valley runs local crews out of Page Park Drive in Poughkeepsie, a short drive down Route 9 to Beacon. We clean and flush gutters, repair leaking seams and loose hangers, form new runs on site, replace soft fascia and install BroGuard stainless micro-mesh. When a renovation takes an older house down to the trim, 6-inch gutters often handle a summer downpour or a fast thaw better than the old system did. Every estimate is free and written.
The mid Hudson Valley gets about 42 inches of rain and melted snow a year, spread across all four seasons. Maple, oak and sycamore leaves come down in October and November, maple seeds and oak catkins follow in spring, and summer thunderstorms run hard off the slopes of Mount Beacon. In winter, leaves left in the trough freeze in place and meltwater backs up at the roof edge. Our maintenance program keeps that from happening, and fall is the time to get on the schedule before the first hard freeze.

Often, yes. Many older Beacon homes still carry sectional gutters that leak at the seams or pull away at the hangers. A renovation is the easiest time to swap them for a seamless system formed on site, with new fascia where the wood is soft and downspouts placed to carry water away from the foundation. We give you a free written estimate either way.
Yes. Victorian and other older homes often have fascia boards that have been painted and patched for decades. We check the fascia first and replace any soft boards, then form seamless runs on site to the exact length of each eave, with hangers screwed into solid wood. On larger or steeper roofs, a 6-inch gutter is often the better fit.
Most Beacon homes need two cleanings a year: one in late fall after the maple and oak leaves are down, and one in spring after the seeds and catkins drop. Homes on wooded lots near Mount Beacon may need more. Leaves left in the trough in November freeze in place and stay there until spring, so the fall visit matters most.
They can. A gutter packed with leaves cannot drain meltwater, so water backs up at the roof edge and the added weight pulls on loose hangers. Clearing the trough before the freeze, fixing loose hangers and making sure every downspout drains away from the house goes a long way through a Beacon winter.
Yes. Our crews work all over Beacon, from Main Street and the blocks along Fishkill Creek to the streets below Mount Beacon, and we serve neighboring Fishkill and Newburgh across the bridge too. Wherever you are, the estimate is free and written, and the same local team handles the job from the first visit to the final flush test.
