Gutters for the center of the Town of Yorktown

Yorktown Heights is a hamlet in the Town of Yorktown in northern Westchester County. The area was first settled in 1683, and the town was incorporated in 1788 under a name honoring the Franco-American victory at Yorktown, Virginia, replacing the original name, Hanover. During the Revolution the 1st Rhode Island Regiment guarded the Pine’s Bridge crossing of the Croton River, and a monument to the 1781 Battle of Pine’s Bridge stands in the center of the hamlet. The railroad station went up in 1905 and saw its last passengers in 1958, and the old rail line is now the North County Trailway. Today Route 118 meets US 202 and Route 35 in the hamlet’s commercial center, with Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, Jefferson Valley and Crompond making up the rest of the town.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Hudson Valley runs local crews out of Page Park Drive in Poughkeepsie, and Yorktown Heights is a regular stop as we work through northern Westchester. Cleaning, downspout flushing, leak and hanger repair, new seamless runs, fascia replacement and BroGuard stainless micro-mesh all come from the same crew. On two-story colonials and wide split levels that send most of the roof to a couple of corners, 6-inch gutters with added downspouts handle a summer cloudburst without spilling over. The written estimate costs nothing.

Yorktown Heights gets about 42 inches of rain and melted snow in a normal year (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals at Dutchess County Airport near Poughkeepsie), spread through all four seasons. The town keeps a lot of green space, from Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park to Turkey Mountain and the Amawalk Reservoir, and plenty of homes sit under oaks and maples that drop leaves, seeds and catkins. On hilly lots, water that spills from a clogged gutter runs toward the foundation or across the driveway, where it can freeze in winter. Our maintenance program books the cleanings around the fall leaf drop and the spring seed fall, so the gutters stay open year round.

“Brothers-Gutters are professional, courteous, and reliable. As we get older and second-story ladders are less manageable, it’s great having them clean and maintain our gutters. We look forward to working with them in the future. Thanks, B-G!”

Yorktown Heights Gutter Questions, Answered

How often should gutters be cleaned in Yorktown Heights, NY?

For most homes in Yorktown Heights, two times a year: in late fall after the oaks drop their last leaves, before the first hard freeze, and in late spring after maple seeds and oak catkins fall. Homes with pines close to the roof may need a third visit, because needles keep coming down after the leaves are done.

My split level in Yorktown overflows at one corner. Why?

Usually the gutter is too small for the roof area feeding it, the run is too long for one downspout, or the outlet is clogged. Runs over about 40 feet should have a second downspout, and a 6-inch gutter carries about 40 percent more water than a 5-inch one. We check all three and put the fix in a free written estimate.

Are gutter guards worth it in Yorktown Heights?

On lots with oaks, maples or pines over the roof, often yes. BroGuard is a stainless micro-mesh that keeps leaves and needles on top while water passes through, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty. Guards cut down on how often the gutter needs a full cleaning, though we still suggest a check after a heavy leaf season.

How do I stop gutter overflow from freezing on my driveway?

Keep the gutters clean before the freeze and move the downspouts so they do not empty across the driveway or walk. Extensions or underground drainage can carry roof water to the lawn instead. Meltwater that spills over a clogged gutter in winter lands where you walk, so a late fall cleaning and a properly aimed outlet do most of the work.

Do you cover Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak and Jefferson Valley?

Yes. We work in Yorktown Heights around the junction of Route 118, US 202 and Route 35, and across the Town of Yorktown, including Mohegan Lake, Shrub Oak, Jefferson Valley, Crompond and Amawalk. Every estimate is free and written, and the same local team handles the job from the first look to the final flush test.
