Gutters for Pleasant Valley, on Wappinger Creek in central Dutchess

The Town of Pleasant Valley was formed in 1821 from part of Clinton, on land that was once part of the Great Nine Partners Patent of 1697. The hamlet sits in the southwest corner of town on Route 44, which runs as Main Street about seven miles from Poughkeepsie and eight from Millbrook, and Wappinger Creek flows right through the middle of it. The town also takes in Salt Point, Netherwood, Bloomvale, Gretna, Washington Hollow and Clark Heights, and the Taconic State Parkway crosses Route 44 in its northern part. The 2020 Census counted 9,799 people in the town.

Our crews are based in Poughkeepsie on Page Park Drive, a short drive down Route 44, and work through central Dutchess every week, with Pleasant Valley on the same run as LaGrange and Hyde Park. One crew covers hand cleaning, downspout flushing, sealed seams, reset hangers, fascia replacement, seamless runs formed at the truck and BroGuard stainless micro-mesh. On larger homes with long, high eaves, 6-inch gutters take on a summer cloudburst and the spring melt without overflowing. The estimate is free and in writing.

The NOAA Millbrook 3 W station, about five miles from the hamlet, records about 46 inches of rain and melted snow in an average year (1991 to 2020 normals), with September the wettest month at 4.61 inches. Census estimates for ZIP code 12569 show a wide spread of ages, from homes built before 1940 to houses from the 1980s and 2000s, and many sit on wooded or rural lots with trees close to the roof. Where a lot slopes toward the creek, water from an overflowing gutter runs along the foundation on its way downhill. Our maintenance program plans a cleaning after the fall leaf drop and another after the spring seeds, so Pleasant Valley gutters stay open all through winter.

“Brothers-Gutters are professional, courteous, and reliable. As we get older and second-story ladders are less manageable, it’s great having them clean and maintain our gutters. We look forward to working with them in the future. Thanks, B-G!”

Pleasant Valley Gutter Questions, Answered

When is the right time to clean gutters in Pleasant Valley, NY?

Plan the big cleaning for late fall, after the oaks and maples have let go of their leaves and before the first hard freeze. Wet leaves that sit in a gutter into December freeze in place and block meltwater. A second visit in late spring takes care of seeds and catkins, and lots with pines nearby may need one more.

My Pleasant Valley home is from the 1980s and the gutters overflow in heavy rain. Why?

Many homes from that period were built with 5-inch gutters and a few small downspouts, which is often not enough for a big two-story roof, and clogged outlets make it worse. Moving to 6-inch seamless gutters, larger downspouts and an added outlet on long runs usually ends the overflow. We lay out the options in a free written estimate.

My lot slopes toward Wappinger Creek. How do you keep water away from the house?

We place downspouts on the downhill side where we can, size each one for the roof area it drains, and add extensions or underground drainage so water does not run back along the wall. On a sloped lot, that layout matters as much as the gutter itself.

Should I repair or replace the gutters on an older Pleasant Valley house?

It depends on the gutter and the wood behind it. If the run is sound and only a seam or hanger has failed, a repair makes sense. If it is a sectional gutter leaking at several joints, sagging in places or hung on rotted fascia, new seamless runs on repaired boards usually hold up better. We show you which way we would go and why.

Do you serve Salt Point and the rest of the town?

Yes. We work across the Town of Pleasant Valley, including the hamlet on Route 44, Salt Point, Netherwood, Bloomvale, Washington Hollow and Clark Heights. Every estimate is free and written, and the same local team handles your job from the first walkthrough to the final downspout test.
