Gutters for Orange County’s county seat

Goshen was settled around 1714, the town was established in 1788 and the village was incorporated in 1809. All county government has been centered here since the late 1800s, and the Greek Revival courthouse went up in 1841. Harness racing put Goshen on the map: the Historic Track opened in 1838, still hosts a week of racing each year in the middle of the village and is a National Historic Landmark, and the Hambletonian ran at the old Good Time Park from 1930 to 1956. Noah Webster taught at the Farmers’ Hall Academy here in the early 1780s, and the Orange County Government Center, designed by Paul Rudolph, stands in the village as well.

Our crews are based in Poughkeepsie on Page Park Drive and work Orange County every week, with Goshen on the regular run alongside Middletown and Washingtonville. The same crew handles hand cleaning, downspout flushing, leak and hanger repair, fascia replacement, new seamless runs formed at the truck and BroGuard stainless micro-mesh. On tall village houses with steep roofs that dump water fast, 6-inch gutters handle a summer thunderstorm and the spring melt without pouring over the front. We put every estimate in writing, free.

Goshen gets about 42 inches of rain and melted snow over a normal year (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals at Dutchess County Airport near Poughkeepsie), spread through every season. Mature maples shade the village streets, and with the Otter Kill and open farmland around town, plenty of lots are flat and slow to drain. When a gutter overflows or a downspout empties at the wall, that water stays against the foundation. Our maintenance program schedules a clean-out once the leaves are down and another in spring, so every gutter is open before the freeze and after the thaw.

“Brothers-Gutters are professional, courteous, and reliable. As we get older and second-story ladders are less manageable, it’s great having them clean and maintain our gutters. We look forward to working with them in the future. Thanks, B-G!”

Goshen Gutter Questions, Answered

How often do gutters need cleaning in Goshen, NY?

Most Goshen homes do well with two cleanings. The first comes in late fall, once the maples and oaks are bare and before the first hard freeze, so leaves do not freeze in the trough. The second comes in late spring after the maple seeds land. Village houses under very large trees sometimes need a check in between.

Can a Victorian or Greek Revival house in the village get seamless gutters?

Yes. We start with the fascia and trim, because wood on a house more than a century old can look fine and still be rotted underneath, and we replace anything that will not hold a screw. Then each seamless run is formed on site to the length of the eave. Tall roofs with steep pitches usually call for 6-inch gutters and larger downspouts.

Water sits next to my foundation after every storm. What can I do?

Start by keeping the gutters clean and making sure no downspout empties right at the wall. On flat Goshen lots, water that lands at the foundation has nowhere to run. Downspout extensions help, and underground drainage can carry the water well out into the yard. A clean gutter before the freeze also keeps meltwater moving in winter.

My ranch has one downspout for a long roof. Is that enough?

Often not. A long run feeding a single downspout overflows in heavy rain, and the water spills in the same spot every time. Once a run passes about 40 feet we usually add a second outlet, and we size the gutter to the roof area feeding it. Both changes go into a free written estimate so you can see what each one does.

Do you work in Howells, Durlandville and the rest of the town?

Yes. We serve the Village of Goshen around Main Street and the Historic Track and the rest of the town, including Howells, Durlandville, Otter Kill and Goshen Hills. Every estimate is free and written, and one local team takes the job from the first look at the roof to the last downspout test.
