Gutters for the suburban heart of central Dutchess

LaGrange began in 1821 as the Town of Freedom, carved from parts of Beekman and Fishkill. A town in Cattaraugus County already used that name, so in 1828 it became LaGrange, after the estate of the Marquis de Lafayette. Three main highways cross the town: the Taconic State Parkway runs north and south, Route 55 cuts east and west through Freedom Plains, and Route 82 angles from Hopewell Junction up toward Moores Mill. LaGrangeville, the hamlet in the southeast that gives ZIP 12540 its name, covers the largest share of town, and James Baird State Park and Freedom Park give residents plenty of open space.

LaGrange sits about 11 miles east of Poughkeepsie on Route 55, so it is one of the shortest drives our crews make from Page Park Drive. The same team does the hand cleaning, flushes and tests downspouts, reseals corners, resets hangers, swaps out rotted fascia, forms new seamless runs from the truck and installs BroGuard stainless micro-mesh. On two-story colonials whose roofs funnel water to a few corners, 6-inch gutters keep up with a July downpour and spring meltwater instead of spilling over. You get the estimate in writing, and it is free.

LaGrange sees about 42 inches of rain and melted snow in an average year (NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals at Dutchess County Airport near Poughkeepsie), with no real dry season. Many neighborhoods here were built into woodland, so oaks, maples and pines still stand close to the house. On sloped lots a clogged gutter sends water down the hill toward the foundation or across the driveway, where it can refreeze into a slick patch overnight. Our maintenance program puts a cleaning on the calendar after the leaves drop and another after the spring seed fall, so the system stays open all year.

Why the Brothers

Why LaGrange Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Sized for the roof

Colonials send a lot of water to a few corners. We match gutter and downspout size to each one.

02Wooded-lot know-how

Oaks and pines crowd many LaGrange lots. BroGuard plus a set cleaning schedule keeps the trough open.

03Hung for winter

Snow load and freeze-thaw test every hanger. We fasten into solid wood and space hangers for the weight.

04Local crews, central Dutchess

Our crews are based in Poughkeepsie, about 11 miles west on Route 55, and serve LaGrangeville and the whole Town of LaGrange. Call (845) 223-6111 for a free written estimate in LaGrange.

“Brothers-Gutters are professional, courteous, and reliable. As we get older and second-story ladders are less manageable, it’s great having them clean and maintain our gutters. We look forward to working with them in the future. Thanks, B-G!”

LaGrange Gutter Questions, Answered

How often should gutters be cleaned in LaGrange, NY?

Twice a year suits most LaGrange homes. The fall cleaning should come after the oaks drop their last leaves, which is often later than the maples, and before the first hard freeze. The spring cleaning follows the seed and catkin drop. Houses with pines right over the roof may need a third visit, since needles fall in every season.

Why does one corner of my colonial overflow every time it storms?

Usually because too much roof drains to that corner, the run is too long for one downspout, or the outlet is partly clogged. A 6-inch gutter holds roughly 40 percent more water than a 5-inch one, and adding a second downspout on a long run splits the load. We check each cause and spell out the fix in a free written estimate.

My raised ranch gutters are pulling away from the house. Can they be saved?

Sometimes. If the gutter is sound and the fascia behind it is solid, we reset it with new hangers screwed into the wood. If the fascia has rotted, which is common where a gutter overflowed for years, we replace those boards first. If the old gutter is sectional and leaking at every joint, a new seamless run is usually the better choice.

Are gutter guards a good idea on a wooded LaGrange lot?

On lots with oaks, maples or pines over the roof, they usually are. BroGuard is a stainless micro-mesh that keeps leaves and needles on the surface while water passes through to the trough. Guards stretch the time between full cleanings, though we still recommend a look after a heavy leaf year or a big storm that brings down branches.

Do you serve Freedom Plains, Billings and the rest of LaGrange?

Yes. We work in LaGrangeville, Freedom Plains, Billings, Arthursburg, Noxon, Moores Mill and the neighborhoods off Route 55 and Route 82. Estimates are free and written, and the same local team handles the job from the first look at the roofline to the final downspout test.
